    Job Summary

    The Contract Instructional Designer is responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, and evaluating learning programs and curricula that provide our clients with the knowledge and skills required to achieve results.

    The Contract Instructional Designer works with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to design and develop training solutions that incorporate best practices in behavioral and cognitive sciences to effectively address business and performance issues. The Contract Instructional Designer designs and develops learning solutions for multiple delivery methods including instructor-led, web-based, virtual classroom, blended solutions, and mobile delivery. In addition, they ensure instructional quality is built into the final project deliverables.

    Job Duties

    • Plan and monitor instructional design projects, including timelines, resource requirements and project risk.
    • Write engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer.
    • Create storyboards for self-directed online training, write job aids, and create lesson plans/participant materials for instructor-led training.
    • Create instructional design documents.
    • Use design documents and storyboards to create course content using the ADDIE instructional design model.
    • Lead design sessions with clients and SME’s, both in person and virtual.
    • State instructional goals and create matching content.
    • Identify the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments.
    • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods while keeping projects in scope/under budget.


    • Minimum of five years’ experience designing and developing instructional material.
    • Instructional design background including strong knowledge of adult learning theory, learning styles, learner needs, and delivery of web-based content.
    • Ability to incorporate the most effective, leading-edge instructional approaches while staying within allocated budget.
    • Strong proficiency in writing, editing, and grammatical skills.
    • Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated ability to apply adult learning theory in a corporate training environment preferred.

    Our Learning & Development team is looking for an Instructional Designer to assist with various projects within the L&D team. If you have experience designing and developing learning materials, we want to talk to you!


    As an Instructional Designer you'll work with subject matter experts to streamline and update policies and procedures, design and update e-learning and blended curriculum (i.e. ILT, web-based training, on-the-job training, small discussion groups, etc.), define learning and performance objectives, and perform occasional instructor-led training programs and Train-the-Trainer on system rollouts, if applicable.


    1. Develop and revise e-learning, blended and training curriculum in conjunction with facilitators/SMEs based on evaluations and changing business needs, including e-learning/virtual components.
    2. Create storyboards for self-directed online training, write job aids, and create lesson plans and participant materials for instructor-led training.
    3. Assist with training needs analyses to ensure all training materials are highly targeted to the needs of the audience.
    4. Review and recommend revisions and/or changes to Sun’s policies and procedures.
    5. Develop and maintain documentation for various company systems, processes and procedures in the Knowledge Base.
    6. Monitor and support web 2.0/social communication and collaboration regarding course content (chat, discussion groups, wikis, etc.).
    7. Assist with evaluation of learning results and the business impact.
    8. Other duties and special projects as assigned.


    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or related field
    • Minimum of 1-2 years experience creating, designing and developing learning materials
    • Minimum of 1-2 years experience writing and updating policies and procedures
    • Minimum of 1-2 years experience managing a learning management system
    • Prior experience writing processes and/or procedures, preferred
    • Basic HTML coding experience, a plus
    • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems
    • Strong attention to detail, customer service, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues
    • Ability to work effectively as a collaborate team with diverse groups/audiences, including those in remote locations
    • Ability to work independently
    • Excellent computer proficiency including the ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), email and internet

    REPORTS TO:     SVP of Development and Strategic Performance

    FLSA STATUS:    Exempt

    • Understand, demonstrate and promote the priniciples of the Company's Mission and Values.
    • Plan, organize and deliver training to client employees using a variety of instructional techniques in the Ulliance format.
    • Assist in the development, design and maintenance of effective training curriculum, job aids, support materials and programs.
    • Schedule and coordinate training activities including determining equipment and material needs.
    • Record training activities in internal system.
    • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of trainings provided.
    • Assist in the customization of existing programs for client companies.

    Required Minimum Qualifications

    • Possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Training and Development, Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration and/or related discipline or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum five years classroom training experience.
    • Excellent classroom presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Knowledgeable of training needs, analysis, development, design, delivery and measurement.
    • Demonstrates understanding and application of instructional design and delivery theories i.e. Adult Learning Theory, Instruction System Design (ISD)/ADDIE Model.
    • Experience in providing career transition and employee trainings, workshops and seminars.
    • Effective and confident in facilitating groups.
    • Exceptional technical writing skills with ability to create various job aids and training materials.
    • Ability to professionally interact with all levels of organizations.
    • Ability to verbally communicate information clearly and concisely ensuring audience comprehension.
    • Ability to prioritize, organize and multi-task.
    • Availability to work both defined and flexible schedule/hours.
    • Strong working knowledge of Power Point, Word and Excel Microsoft Office with ability to create innovative presentations.
    • Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
    • Ability to travel within Metropolitan Detroit area to client locations to deliver sessions with up to 10% overnight travel possible.

    Additional Desirable Qualifications

    • Masters' degree in related field.
    • Certification in Learning and Performance (CPLP) and/or Association for Talent Development (ATD).

    Our Creative Development Team is looking for an Instructional Designer to assist with various projects within the FCA Performance Institute.     • Instructional Design: Design and develop learning solutions that meet and exceed FCA Performance Institute expectations for improving retail performance.
      • Develop written materials across a variety of media (web, print, live, and video) that communicate a clear, relevant message to all our external and internal audiences including our internal FCA Performance Institute staff, trainers, and the end users in dealerships across the country.
      • Design, write and edit throughout entire development process single and multiple platform creative communication, training and performance improvement solutions under tight timelines with minimal supervision, including: Content outlines, interactive instructional design documents, production scripts, meeting leader guides (for live training) and testing/assessment script.
      • Write additional print/interactive support, including print deliverables/job aids, word tracks, and interactive links to multimedia files.
    • Product Writing: Create deliverables that assist dealership Sales teams with a level of product knowledge (features and benefits) to successfully sell a whole range of products, services and accessories.
      • Perform research and review source materials to identify messages that support brand direction.
      • Collaborate with corporate partners such as the FCA Sales organization, Chrysler Media and FCA Scoop to leverage available assets and programs as needed to support retail performance improvement and knowledge transfer.
      • Work with cross-functional teams to create learning modules focused on the features and benefits of the automotive products and services.
    • Bachelor's Degree
